Mwiba Plains, Auberge Safari

Set within the Maswa Kimali protected wildlife area bordering the southern Serengeti, Songa Migrational Camp South stands on the short-grass plains where half a million wildebeest calves are born each February. The camp relocates twice annually, tracking the Great Migration between this southern calving ground and the northern Mara River crossings. Eight tented rooms and one family tent occupy the site. Each tent features an indoor shower, flush toilet, and double vanity. Beds convert from twin to king configuration, and an extra stretcher fits in each room. The family tent holds two en-suite bedrooms separated by a shared lounge.

Each booking includes a private guide and open safari vehicle for the duration of the stay. Day and night game drives depart on request, and all-day safaris can be arranged through the guide. Breakfast offers fresh fruit, homemade yogurt, cereals, and hot dishes. Lunch and dinner are served family-style with shared plates. Meals can be taken in the al-fresco dining areas or packed into hampers for full-day excursions. A breakfast box with tea, coffee, and prepared treats accompanies morning drives; a sundowner box with drinks and snacks goes out in the afternoon. Cultural visits to a nearby Datoga village introduce guests to the traditions of this pastoral people. Helicopter flights over the plains are available by prior arrangement. The camp's position within the exclusive-use reserve means sightings unfold without other vehicles present.
