Set along the Mohlabetsi riverbed in the Balule reserve within Greater Kruger, Nyala Safari Lodge holds five thatched rondawel chalets beneath jackalberry and boer-bean trees. The Balule shares an unfenced border with Kruger National Park and supports lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Each chalet features an indoor and outdoor shower; four include deep bathtubs. Rooms are fitted with air conditioning, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, and private patios facing the bush or river. Bed configurations convert between queen, king, and twin. Tea and coffee stations sit beside each bed.
The main lodge overlooks the river from a raised deck where all meals are served. A rim-flow pool sits in the garden. The boma area includes a fire pit and views of a floodlit waterhole. Game drives depart at first light and again in the late afternoon, each lasting roughly three hours in open 4x4 vehicles equipped with binoculars, blankets, and rain ponchos. Morning drives include a coffee stop; afternoon drives feature a sundowner stop with drinks and snacks. Rangers extend evening drives into night drives to track nocturnal predators. Dinner is plated or cooked on an open fire in the boma. Local wines, beers, soft drinks, tea, and coffee are included. The lodge operates off-grid on solar power. You can hear pearl-spotted owls calling from the jackalberry trees above the deck. Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport lies 20 minutes away by road.
