Porini Lion Camp

Ol Kinyei Conservancy was established in 2005 as the first community conservancy of its kind in the Masai Mara ecosystem. Porini Mara Camp sits within this 18,700-acre wilderness, one of three sites in Kenya recognised on the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas. The conservancy is home to two resident lion prides, cheetah, leopard, elephant, and giraffe. It serves as the northernmost calving ground for the Loita wildebeest migration, which arrives in January with calving season running from February through March. Six tented suites stand on raised platforms among acacia woodland. Each secures 700 acres of conservancy land through the camp's conservation lease model. Two family units include a central connecting lounge. All tents run on solar power with no permanent structures; the camp is designed to leave no trace if removed. Vehicle density is limited to one per 1,400 acres across the conservancy. Day and night game drives are led by KPSGA-certified Maasai guides and spotters. Guests can also explore neighbouring Naboisho Conservancy. Guided nature walks with Maasai warriors cover smaller fauna and traditional knowledge. Bush breakfasts and sundowners are served at viewpoints across the plains. The camp holds a Gold Eco-rating from Ecotourism Kenya. Staff are drawn from the local Maasai community, and each stay funds land lease payments that support wildlife and habitat conservation through the Wildlife Habitat Trust.
