Pumba Water Lodge
Opening onto private decks above Lake Cariega, the twelve stone-walled chalets stand among dense bushveld in a malaria-free Eastern Cape reserve. Eight Impala chalets span 144 square metres and feature king or twin beds, freestanding baths, separate showers, and outdoor showers screened by timber. Three Gemsbok chalets add a recessed lounge with a built-in daybed. The two-bedroom Kudu suite holds a shared lounge, a wraparound deck, and a steam room beneath the deck. All rooms open onto viewing decks fitted with private plunge pools.

Twice-daily game drives depart in open Land Rovers with a ranger and tracker. Morning drives begin at sunrise; afternoon drives extend into night drives to track nocturnal species. Walking safaris trace animal paths on foot. The reserve holds lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros, plus white lions, wild dogs, hyena, and cheetah. Bass fishing runs from the lakeshore. Stargazing and archery are included; birding safaris, bush walks, and photo safaris are arranged on request.

The lodge has a restaurant, a bar, a conference centre, and a spa. Wireless internet, mini-bar, laundry service, and air-conditioning are standard. You can hear hippos from the terrace at night. Check-in is at 14h00; check-out at 11h00.
