River Crossing Lodge

Perched on a koppie within a 6,500-hectare reserve five kilometres from central Windhoek, the lodge overlooks plains that roll toward the Moltkeblick range to the east and the city lights to the west. Twenty chalets sit along the ridgeline. Each has twin or double beds, air-conditioning, satellite television, a mini-bar fridge with bottled water, a coffee station, an en-suite bathroom with shower, and a private balcony. Six face west for sunset views over Windhoek; fourteen face east toward the Moltkeblick at sunrise. Two chalets are designed for honeymooners. A triple configuration accommodates two adults and one child.

Nineteen species—oryx, kudu, giraffe, wildebeest, roan, sable—roam the reserve; leopard and cheetah appear occasionally. Morning and afternoon game drives last two to three hours and include drinks and snacks. Guided walks run up to two hours. You can arrange horseback rides through an independent team based on the property. The main lodge building holds a dining room, a bar, a lounge with fireplace, a lap pool, and an elevated wooden deck. Breakfast runs from seven to ten; lunch is à la carte from midday to three; dinner is a three-course menu from six to nine. The restaurant is open to non-residents by booking. A private conference room seats fifty delegates and opens onto a veranda. Secure parking, twenty-four-hour security, and laundry service are standard. Staff speak English, Afrikaans, and German.
