Built along the seasonal Ross River in Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, RockFig Safari Lodge stands within the fifty-three-thousand-hectare concession adjoining Kruger National Park. The reserve removed its boundary fence with Kruger in 1993, returning free movement to elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and white rhino across both territories. Six chalet-style suites accommodate a maximum of 16 guests. Each suite includes an en-suite bath, indoor and outdoor showers, air-conditioning, overhead fans, a mini-bar, and a private deck with a heated plunge pool. Laundry service and wireless internet access are included.
Game drives depart twice daily with a professional guide and tracker, carrying a maximum of four guests per vehicle. Families and groups of four or more receive a private vehicle at no additional charge. Drives track the Big Five, wild dogs, cheetah, and the region's rare white lions. Walking safaris follow animal tracks and signs on foot through the reserve. Optional activities include demonstrations by the reserve's anti-poaching canine unit and forty-minute counter-poaching helicopter flights that support ranger operations. The Graeme Naylor Museum, a short distance from the lodge, houses natural-history collections including white lions and regional butterflies.
Meals use fresh locally sourced ingredients and are served in the main lodge, on the deck, or in the boma under open sky. Bush breakfasts follow morning drives; pancake stops pause mid-drive for hot pancakes with toppings, weather dependent. The lodge has a pool, a spa, a gym, and secure parking. You can hear the seasonal river from the deck.
