Shaped by sculpted five-hundred-million-year-old rock formations, the lodge sits in a horseshoe bend where a dry ravine curves through the Little Karoo. Dwyka Tented Lodge is nine tented suites set within Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, a sixty-two-thousand-hectare reserve in the Western Cape three and a half hours from Cape Town. Each suite is canvas furnished with a freestanding bath, twin basins, an outdoor shower, and underfloor heating. King or twin beds can be configured on request. A private deck extends from each tent with a heated plunge pool. Comfort cooling and heating regulate the interior temperature.
The reserve spans two biodiversity hotspots bisected by the Warmwaterberg Mountain. Guided morning and sunset drives depart in open vehicles and last up to three hours. Rangers track wildlife across renosterveld and mountain slopes. Guided walks cover terrain where San hunter-gatherers left rock art at seven recorded sites across the reserve. Stargazing sessions take place after dark. The Relaxation Retreat offers treatments using indigenous fynbos plant extracts and includes a steam room. All meals, a selection of house wines and beers, on-drive snacks and beverages, and internal transfers between the lodge and welcome lounge are included. The reserve operates under a non-profit ownership model directing revenue toward conservation and community programmes. Children under 16 years are not permitted at the lodge.
