Sau Bay Resort & Spa

A protected bay on the southeast edge of Vanua Levu holds Sau Bay Resort & Spa, reachable only by boat across roughly twenty to thirty minutes of open water from Taveuni. Rainforest rises behind the property on land the resort counts at around 100 acres, and a coral shelf runs from the beach itself, close enough to snorkel without a boat. Seven oceanfront and ocean-view bures make up the whole property, including a raised tented bure styled as a treehouse. Rooms keep to plain comforts: ceiling fans, a coffee press, Wi-Fi, and a daily turndown. The real draw lies offshore. Rainbow Reef sits a short run away, fed by currents through the Somosomo Strait that keep its soft coral in bloom, and the resort's own dive operation runs three custom boats to reach it. The Great White Wall, a vertical dive dropping to about 90 feet along a wall pale with soft coral, is reachable in fifteen to twenty minutes. It is a fifteen-minute run to the wall. Divers need Advanced Open Water certification for it, and the site is only diveable around the mid-lunar cycle. On land, a waterfront spa bure looks over the water, and dinner is served under a rain tree by the shore most evenings. You can hear the tide from the bures at night, and little else.
