Savegre Hotel Natural Reserve & Spa

Guided walks into cloud forest at dawn track the resplendent quetzal feeding on aguacatillo fruit near the Savegre River, two hours by road from San José. The hotel occupies 500 hectares of protected forest in San Gerardo de Dota at 2,200 metres elevation; six trails extend across 25 kilometres, and an observation platform stands within the reserve. The Savegre River runs 41 kilometres from its source in these mountains to the Pacific and forms part of a UNESCO biosphere reserve. A trail climbs from the hotel to the summit of Buena Vista Mountain at 3,492 metres, where the central and southern Pacific coasts are visible on clear mornings.
