Schoone Oordt Country House
The property is a Victorian manor on two acres in Swellendam, two and a half hours from Cape Town on the edge of the Garden Route. Richard and Alison Walker began restoration in 2003 after purchasing the house during a pregnancy test holiday in Arniston. The couple stripped every ceiling board and floorboard by hand, rebuilt the kitchen four times, and opened the first five rooms in November 2007. Eleven rooms now occupy separate buildings around rose gardens and fountains fed by the Koornlands River.

Eight Luxury Rooms measure 25 m² and hold king or twin beds, restored antique wardrobes, wool carpets, fireplaces, air conditioning, and underfloor heating in bathrooms fitted with separate Victorian baths and oversized showers. Each opens to a private patio. The 61 m² Honeymoon Suite sits at the forest edge with a carved four-poster bed, open hearth, double basins, and an extra-length reconditioned Victorian bath. The 34 m² Family Cottage occupies the restored coach house with a loft holding two single beds and a ground-floor king. The 47 m² Family Suite offers an open-plan bedroom and lounge plus a separate room with two purpose-built bunks, sleeping six.

The Conservatory restaurant sources produce from local suppliers and serves multi-course breakfasts and dinner in an English-style glasshouse overlooking the garden. Afternoon tea with home-baked items is complimentary in summer; warming drinks and snack platters in winter. A saltwater pool anchors the grounds. Secure parking, laundry service, and daily turndown are provided.
