Shinde
Part of Phasec create
Shinde sits on a palm island at the edge of Shinde Lagoon in the northern Okavango Delta, on a private concession in NG 21. The camp holds seven twin or double tents and one family tent — the family tent sleeps up to five across two bedrooms with a shared en-suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor shower, and flush toilet. Each tent has a verandah, mosquito nets, an outside shower, and a safe. The main area — a multi-tiered dining room, bar, lounge, and library — sits under canvas between ebony and mangosteen trees, with a campfire overlooking permanent water. A swimming pool and private airstrip complete the facilities. The camp runs on full solar power.
Because the concession combines permanent waterways with large dry areas, both water and land activities run year-round. Game drives go out in vehicles limited to four guests, each seat with its own camera mount. Mokoro trips with a poler cover the quieter channels, where sitatunga, fish eagles, painted reed frogs, and malachite kingfishers are regularly seen. Motorboat excursions reach the wider lagoon and delta waterways. Guided walks, specialist walking safaris, and a specialist family guide programme are available, as are night drives after dinner. Fishing runs through most of the year — bream from May to September, tigerfish from September to mid-November — with the exception of January and February.
Children are welcome from the age of seven. The camp is open year-round.
