Shu'mata Camp
Set on a ridge above Maasai steppe in the Enduimet Wildlife Management Area, the camp overlooks the Amboseli ecosystem with Kilimanjaro filling the northern horizon. Seven tented suites line the elevation, each furnished with campaign beds, lockable trunks, dressing tables, and en-suite bathrooms fitted with open-air showers. A Bedouin mess tent anchors communal meals; dinners are served by candlelight or around the fire under stars. The kitchen draws from Wondergarden — a network of multi-cropping gardens cultivated without synthetic inputs by Maasai communities and smallholder farmers across the greater Kilimanjaro corridor. Breakfast can be brought to your tent at first light.

Game drives cross unfenced plains where elephant herds migrate between Amboseli National Park in Kenya and Tanzanian steppe, moving freely through the corridor. Giraffe, wildebeest, and ostrich graze the open country; you can arrange morning picnics on the plains with coffee and breakfast served under the sky. Naturalist walks led by Maasai guides reveal flora, tracks, and the smaller signs of the bush through generations of lived knowledge. A hike to Kilimanjaro's Shira Plateau climbs through heathland and volcanic terrain to an elevation above the plains, where hibiscus juice or gin with homemade tonic is served with heritage-food snacks. The camp lies within two hours of Kilimanjaro International Airport and an hour and a half from Hatari Lodge in Arusha National Park.
