Set above an indigenous wooded valley in Sibuya Game Reserve, Bush Lodge is four thatched suites overlooking the Kariega River corridor. The reserve borders the Kariega Estuary in the Eastern Cape and is reached by a 10-kilometre boat transfer from Kenton-on-Sea. Valley thicket and coastal forest support roughly 400 bird species, including the threatened Half-collared Kingfisher and the Narina Trogon. Big Five herds track through the floodplains and guests work with a guide and tracker on morning and night drives.
Each suite stands on a private deck with an en-suite bathroom holding indoor and outdoor showers. King or queen beds occupy the centre; wood-burning fireplaces heat the rooms in winter and air-conditioning answers the summer heat. A tea and coffee station sits beside the bed. Divans accommodate a third guest when needed. A central pool overlooks the valley and the lodge dining area serves buffet meals with South African wine.
Guides lead walking safaris through the reserve and night drives reveal brown hyena, aardwolf, and genets. Bird walks concentrate on kingfishers, trogons, African fish eagles, and secretary birds. The reserve runs a dedicated anti-poaching unit to protect resident rhino, and the lodge welcomes children over 12. You can hear fish eagles from the deck at dawn.
