Singita Kataza House sits on the boundary of Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda's Northern Province — the park where mountain gorillas live. The house is taken exclusively by one group at a time, and a full private staff runs it throughout your stay.
There are four suites, each with large timber-framed windows that face the surrounding landscape. The house has two heated plunge pools, both indoor and outdoor fireplaces, a fitness centre, a cinema room, a wine cellar, and a massage treatment room. The kitchen is set up for guests to use alongside the staff, and the fire pit outside serves as the gathering point in the evenings.
The main reason people book the house is gorilla trekking. Volcanoes National Park begins at the property boundary, which means treks depart from here rather than from a distant staging point. The park is home to several habituated gorilla groups, and permits allow a one-hour visit with a group in the forest. Treks vary in length and difficulty depending on where the gorillas are that morning — rangers track them from first light.
