Set on the banks of the Nhlaralumi riverbed in the heart of the Timbavati Nature Reserve, Tanda Tula operates nine suites across 55,626 hectares of unfenced wilderness that borders Kruger National Park. Seven safari suites and two family suites face the dry riverbed; sliding glass doors and canvas walls open the front of each suite to the bush. Private decks hold plunge pools and sunken bench seating. Family suites offer two bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, a shared lounge, and an outdoor deck with its own pool.
The camp runs on a grid-tied solar system and holds accreditation from Fair Trade Tourism. Game drives cover the reserve's traversing area with guides and trackers; two of the team hold the rare Master Tracker qualification. Walking safaris depart with armed guides who read tracks and interpret signs on foot. A private conservation helicopter patrol flight lifts guests over the reserve to observe anti-poaching operations and land management from the air. Spa treatments draw on African botanicals; a gym overlooks the bushveld through large windows.
The kitchen sources produce from farms within 200 kilometres and from the on-site garden. In 2026 the Safari Awards named Tanda Tula Best Safari Cuisine in a peer-voted industry process. Dining unfolds on the deck, around the fire, or in the bush under canvas. The lodge was founded in 1977 by the Scott family; today it operates under co-ownership by the Scott, Jackson, Hartog, and Mathebula families.
