Descended from a hotel line the Matutes family began in Ibiza in the late 1960s, TRS Yucatan Hotel carries that Caribbean expansion forward on a stretch of the Riviera Maya coast, about an hour from Cancun airport. The group moved into the region in the early 1990s and later built a set of adults-only properties under the TRS name; this one sits behind a beach that runs over 800 metres, backed by tropical forest rather than open lawn. It is a compact stay in scale but not in offer. The 454 suites range from garden-view junior suites to an Ambassador Suite with a rooftop pool and 360-degree sea views, and several rooms come with private plunge pools or jacuzzi terraces. Butler service is included throughout, and a wristband replaces the room key. The Zentropia spa covers 6,000 m2, and a natural cenote on the grounds is kept for private use. You can hear the Caribbean from most of the beachfront suites at night. Days run between six pools, a mini-golf course, and a small orchid nursery tucked past the tennis courts. Check-in and dining are all-inclusive under the group's Infinite Indulgence programme.
