Tshukudu Bush Lodge
Ten chalets on a rocky outcrop in malaria-free Pilanesberg, two hours from Johannesburg
Perched on a rocky outcrop within a private concession in Pilanesberg National Park, the lodge overlooks grasslands and a permanent waterhole where elephant, buffalo, and rhino gather throughout the day. The park is malaria-free and sits two hours by road north of Johannesburg. Ten chalets occupy the contours of the outcrop in two types: six luxury chalets and four suites. Each luxury chalet holds one double bed, an open-plan lounge with a stone fireplace, a sunken bath, and a fully stocked minibar. The four suites add an indoor and outdoor shower to the same layout and run to 45 m². All rooms open onto private decks with views across the plains to the Pilanesberg mountains.
Game drives depart twice daily into the surrounding concession and wider park, tracking lion, leopard, and the resident herds. Guided walks move through the bushveld with a ranger. Meals are served on the main deck under canvas or in the dining room, which seats eighteen at a single solid-wood table. Bush dinners take place after dark around a fire in the reserve. The lodge pool sits at the front of the outcrop with the same sightline over the waterhole. Bird books and field guides are stocked in each chalet.
