Wild Coast Tented Lodge

Double-height double-glazed glass wraps the front of each cocoon-shaped suite, framing views across Yala National Park's jungle or the Indian Ocean shoreline. Wild Coast Tented Lodge sits where the park meets the coast on Sri Lanka's southern shore, a location that places leopards, sloth bears, and elephants within a 15-minute drive. The 28 tented suites occupy canvas-and-timber structures designed with vaulted ceilings and teak floors. Each suite centres on a four-poster king bed and a freestanding handmade copper bathtub. Cocoon Suites measure 55 square metres and open onto private outdoor viewing decks that overlook watering holes; you can watch birds from the deck at first light. Cocoon Pool Suites add a private plunge pool surrounded by jungle. Family Cocoon Pool Suites pair a 55-square-metre Cocoon with a 20-square-metre Urchin—a twin-bedded structure five metres away, connected by a raised wooden footbridge—and share a plunge pool. The Urchin is suited to children aged eight and older.

One game drive per night's stay is included. Rangers lead morning and afternoon drives into Yala's Block 1, tracking leopard movements and interpreting signs left by wildlife. Guided nature walks with a ranger cover shorter routes on foot, identifying tracks and recent animal activity. Bundala National Park, a wetland habitat for migratory waders and raptors, lies within reach for birding excursions. The lodge's beach is accessible on foot. A spa, library, and swimming pool occupy the main pavilion. Wilderness dining can be arranged in the park; rangers set up afternoon tea at any location within Yala. A rural bike ride through nearby villages is available.
