Wilderness Little Vumbura

Leased from five villages under the Okavango Community Trust, the concession around Little Vumbura ties the camp's presence to a long-running partnership between tourism and local communities. Built beneath the canopy of an old island forest, the camp holds just six tents, each en suite with a lounge and a verandah facing the water. It is reached only by boat, a detail that shapes the whole stay. Guides lead game drives across the surrounding floodplains, known locally as melapo, where elephant, sable antelope, and red lechwe move through the grass. Wild dog and lion move through the concession too, alongside resident leopard and the occasional cheetah. Mornings and evenings favour the vehicle; the channels favour the mokoro. Paddled quietly through clear water, the dugout canoe brings guests close to painted reed frogs and waterlilies, sights a vehicle would miss entirely. Boating trips add sightings of hippo pods and crocodile along the same waterways. A family unit sleeps four across two interleading rooms, sharing a sunken lounge and a deck over the floodplain. Fishing runs on a catch-and-release basis, weather and water levels allowing. Evenings gather on the Star Deck, away from camp lights, for a clear view of the sky. A pool sits at the centre of camp for the heat of the day.
