Wilderness Magashi Peninsula

Set above Lake Rwanyakazinga with the Mutumba Mountains rising to the west, Wilderness Magashi Peninsula sits inside the only private concession in Akagera National Park. The concession covers 4,200 hectares of Central Africa's largest protected wetland, ground shared by open plains, woodland, swamp and grassy hills. It is a compact stay. Two twin suites and a sole-use four-bedroom villa stand roughly 200 metres apart, raised for wide views over the lake, and every room comes with its own star bed for sleeping outdoors. The villa has its own plunge pool, lounge and kitchen, plus a spare room that converts to a gym, office or children's room, with private meals and a dedicated guide on request. Akagera holds ten vegetation biomes and a wildlife list rebuilt through species reintroduction: lion and leopard, black and white rhino, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and more than 500 recorded bird species, including the shoebill. Game drives run across the park and, with limited off-road access, through the private concession itself. Two pontoons and a swamp cruiser take guests onto the lake for picnics and sundowners, where rhino, elephant and buffalo appear often from the water. Catch-and-release fishing is permitted year-round. The camp runs on solar power and keeps a small footprint by design, with just three rooms in total.
