Woodbridge On The Derwent

The Woodbridge is a nine-room mansion on the Derwent River, in New Norfolk, twenty-five minutes from Hobart. Built in 1825, it was restored and reopened as a boutique guesthouse in 2005. Every room faces the water, from the upper floors, which look down over the gardens and river, to the lower rooms, which open onto a terrace beside it. The blackwood floors and original multi-pane windows are two centuries old, paired with plainer Italian-made furniture and modern shutters in place of curtains. Rooms vary in size from 30 to 68 square metres, some with a spa bath and private entrance, others set in the tower or the adjoining cottage. Guests share a kitchenette and dining space rather than a full hotel service, and can take the whole house for group stays, sleeping up to eighteen across its nine accommodations. The Agrarian Kitchen is a short walk away. MONA sits fifteen minutes off, Mount Field National Park and the Styx Valley forests further on. Vineyards, distilleries and cider houses fill the valley around it. New Norfolk itself predates Hobart, its Georgian streets and the old Tollhouse across the river still standing. Check-in runs from 3pm to 5pm, checkout at 11am. Parking is complimentary and on-site.
