Awei Metta Yangon

Set beside fairways rather than surf, Awei Metta trades a coastline for the green expanse of the Pun Hlaing Estate, where two acres of planted grounds sit between the Hlaing and Pun Hlaing rivers on Yangon's edge. The 46 rooms and suites all open to a balcony or deck, most looking over turf tended for an 18-hole course laid out by Gary Player himself. Rooms run from a 53 square metre Deluxe to the 95 square metre Awei Suite, a duplex with the bedroom upstairs and a bathtub for watching the light change over the grounds. The Gary Player Suite, at 93 square metres, carries his design signature and a direct view of the course he shaped. Meals are split across three kitchens, from flame-grilled Myanmar dishes at FLAIRE to casual plates poolside at Oasis Bistro. It is worth booking dinner around a stop at the Whiskey Apothecary, which pours from more than 180 bottles in the atrium, the Cigar Bar, or by the pool. A spa, gym, tennis court, and putting green round out the grounds, and bicycles are free to borrow for a loop of the estate's quiet lanes. Check-in is from 2pm.
