Azul Singular

South-facing Faial, on the Azores' volcanic coast, holds this glamping park at Feteira, a short run from Porto Pim's beach and the Capelinhos lava fields. The land has carried its palm plantation for some 30 years, grown in among wild fern and flowering shrubs that now shelter blackbirds, sparrows and the occasional nesting owl. Three tent types sit inside this garden: Couple Tents and Large Tents built from wood and canvas, and round Yurts modelled on the nomad tents of central Asia. Each Yurt has a glass dome over the bed. You can watch the sky through it at night without leaving the mattress. Large Tents run to 30 m² and sleep up to four, with a kitchenette, a divan, and a fire stove; Yurts hold two, with an outdoor kitchen, shower and toilet set into their own timber platform. Every tent opens onto a private garden with a hammock or outdoor furniture, and a grill. Breakfast, made from regional produce, arrives in a basket at the tent. A shared terrace looks south to the sea and the coast beyond it, and a tea room with a palm-lined balcony serves as the common room. Faial's trails, dive sites and whale-watching boats leave from nearby harbours, and Pico's volcano is a short ferry crossing away.
