Canaves Oia Epitome

Canaves Epitome is the newest member of the Canaves Collection, a family hotel group that traces back to 1983, when Yiannis and Anna Chaidemenos converted two 17th-century wine caves in Oia into some of the island's first guest rooms. Their sons, Markos and Alexandros, now run the business, and Epitome carries the family's later work forward in volcanic stone rather than cave rock. Set above the fishing town of Ammoudi, the hotel is built from the same dark stone as the cliffs beneath it, with Cycladic form softened by modern lines. Every room, from the 42 m2 Deluxe Suite to the 550 m2 Five Bedroom Villa, faces the sea and the sunset. Ten categories of suite and villa are on offer, most with a private plunge pool or heated pool on a terrace. The Aqua Retreat villa goes further, with a glass wall between its pool and the bedroom below. Two restaurants, Elements and Omnia, serve modern European food with Greek touches against the Caldera. A spa and yoga programme round out the grounds, alongside gardens planted with species native to the island. It is a compact, family-founded hotel wearing a contemporary face.
