Estancia Cerro Guido

Wood floors, wool blankets, and low ceilings mark the early twentieth-century houses at Estancia Cerro Guido, restored room by room rather than rebuilt. The property sits near Torres del Paine National Park in Chile's Magallanes region, on grassland still worked as a sheep estancia. It is one of the largest and oldest such estancias in the area. Twenty rooms are spread across the original houses, each with a private bathroom, central heating, and a view over the gardens; decoration nods to the estate's early style, all worn wood and quiet colour. Gauchos on horseback, with trained dogs, still manage the herds and patrol the grassland. Guests can ride out with them, join a guided safari to track the estancia's pumas, or walk into Sierra Baguales, ground known for fossil finds. Meals centre on El Ruedo, the estancia's grill and gathering room, where lamb is roasted whole over open coals and served with garden vegetables. You can hear the fire before you see it. Two all-inclusive programmes structure a stay, one with shared transfers and group excursions, the other private with a dedicated guide and vehicle. A portion of every night's stay goes to the Cerro Guido Foundation, which funds the estancia's conservation work. Snow reaches the pampa in winter; by summer the rivers run high and wildlife is easiest to find.
