Guarda Val

Hotel Guarda Val is a cluster of eleven Maiensäss huts and barns, some up to 300 years old, resited above Lenzerheide and joined into a single boutique hotel. The buildings stand like a small mountain village on the slope, in sun-darkened timber and granite quarried from the region. No corridor links them; guests cross open ground between houses, which gives each room its own entrance and its own quiet. Rooms are grouped by type — Stailetta, Giebelstuben, Bauernstuben, Maiensäss-Stuben, Sennenzimmer among them — and pair timber beams and stone walls with a wood-burning fireplace in several units. One gabled room, the Giebelstube, has a double bathtub set for a view straight up through the roof window. The Guarda Sana spa occupies a former barn on the village square, with a log cabin sauna, an open-air hot tub, and a whey bath in a wooden tub outdoors. There are two restaurants: the gourmet Restaurant Guarda Val, run by executive chef Paul Berberich, and Crap Naros for regional dishes and cheese specialities. A hotel shuttle serves the wider Lenzerheide area. Skiing, winter walking and cross-country trails start close by, and the Bike Kingdom mountain-bike network reaches the same hillside in summer.
