Hotel AWA
Fifteen lake-view rooms on Llanquihue, forty-five minutes from Puerto Montt airport
Hotel AWA is a 15-room hotel on the shore of Lake Llanquihue, on the edge of Chile's Los Lagos region near Puerto Varas. Every room and the adjoining private villa face the same view: open water running to the slopes of Volcano Osorno. The architect-owners built it as a modern reading of local building traditions, mixing timber and craft details with clean, contemporary lines. Rooms range from 45 to 75 square metres, each with underfloor heating, a fireplace and a lake-view bath; the largest suite adds a freestanding tub set to the panorama. Meals draw on an organic garden on the property and small local growers, served in a restaurant open to non-guests as well. Guides run private excursions rather than fixed group tours: hiking in Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, kayaking on the lake or nearby fjords, and a rafting run down the Petrohué River through nine rapids. You can also cycle from the hotel itself to the rafting put-in near Ensenada, with volcanoes Osorno, Calbuco and Puntiagudo along the route. The hotel lies about 45 minutes from Puerto Montt airport. Check-in is from 3pm.
