Hulbert House is a Victorian villa built in 1888, set one block back from Queenstown's centre and quiet for it. The house has kept its period frame while adding the fittings of a modern boutique lodge: fireplaces, mini bars, heated towel rails, cotton linen. Six suites make up the whole property, each finished with its own colour scheme and furnishings rather than a repeated template. The Grand Suite occupies the ground floor and looks out to Lake Wakatipu and the Skyline Gondola. Five Premium Suites fill the rest of the house; three of them, on the ground floor, take in views ranging from the lake to garden and mountain, and one has an accessible bathroom. Rates include breakfast, drinks and canapes before dinner, and refreshments through the day, so guests head into town already fed and watered. Parking sits on three sides of the building with direct street access. Check-in runs from 2pm. Wi-Fi and airport transfers are complimentary throughout the stay. From the terrace you can pick out Skyline Hill across the rooftops, with the town's restaurants and bars a short walk downhill. It is a compact stay, built for guests who want a quiet base with the centre close at hand.
