Mbali Mbali Mahale

Positioned on a sheltered golden beach beneath the forest canopy of the Mahale Mountains, Mbali Mbali Mahale Lodge faces Lake Tanganyika. Ten beach tents stand on raised platforms beneath thatch, each with a private deck overlooking the lake and beach. The tents are furnished with mosquito nets around the beds and bathroom, 24-hour electricity, hot and cold running water, and a lounge area. All lie within walking distance of the main dining and lounge areas. Solar energy powers the property.

Daily chimpanzee trekking departs into Mahale Mountains National Park to observe the habituated M-Group. Viewing is limited to six people per group for one hour at a time. The minimum age to join a trek is twelve. One boat safari of two hours is included per stay; options include a hippo safari and river cruise, or a visit to the neighbouring fishing village of Katumbi. Kayaks are available for use on the lake. Forest walks with a guide cover the flora and fauna of the national park. Crocodile, hippo, and otter appear along the shoreline.

Three daily meals are served in the restaurant: dinner, breakfast, and either lunch or a packed lunch. Three complimentary beverages per meal while dining on site include water, soft drinks, and beers. Laundry service, boat transfer to and from Mahale Airstrip, and wireless internet are complimentary. The lodge closes from 1 March to 31 May each year.
