Rivera del Rio Boutique Hotel

Rivera del Rio is a converted villa on the banks of the Rio Cuale, in Puerto Vallarta's Romantic Zone. The house once belonged to Maria Cortez, known as Silver, a designer whose eclectic style drew praise from Mexican design magazines and international visitors alike. Her name still marks the property: room after room carries family names, and the décor runs to mosaic floors, iron beds, and marble fireplaces rather than anything uniform. It is a compact stay. Nineteen rooms and suites occupy the building, no two alike, some with kitchenettes, patios, or river views, all with air conditioning and a private bathroom. Three pools sit across the grounds, along with a rooftop jacuzzi and bar. From the roof, the city opens out in every direction, jungle-green hills on one side and rooftops running down to the bay on the other. The Romantic Zone's restaurants, shops, and bars lie a short walk away, close enough to reach on foot but far enough that the hotel itself stays quiet. Breakfast is included, cooked to order and taken in the shared kitchen area downstairs. The building's age shows in details a new hotel could not fake: old wooden doors, hand-painted tile, a water system that still runs the whole property. It remains, above all, a house that happens to take guests.
