Sagalassos Lodge & Spa

Set into a pine forest of 10 acres at 1,250 metres in the Taurus Mountains, Sagalassos Lodge & Spa looks out toward the ancient city it takes its name from, four km off and visible from the grounds. The air here runs cool and resinous, thinned by altitude, and birdsong carries further than traffic ever does. The lodge holds 54 rooms across three floors, 50 of them standard and four suites, each opening onto its own balcony over the valley. Rooms carry minibar, LCD television, safe, and a direct line telephone, with air conditioning and heating fitted throughout, and free Wi-Fi runs across the whole building. Suites add a separate sitting area. The kitchen, staffed mostly by women from the village of Aglasun, builds its menu daily from market produce and its own vegetable garden, with a vegetarian option served at every meal. It is a quiet building, more mountain retreat than city block, but built and finished in a modern style rather than a period one. The spa runs a hammam, sauna, fitness room, and two pools, one heated and indoor. Burdur lies 32 km away by road. Guests can walk the pine paths or book a Saturday morning guide to the ruins nearby, with the lodge's own vegetable plot supplying the table most mornings.
