Tensing Pen

Built into limestone cliffs above the Caribbean, Tensing Pen keeps its edges rough on purpose. Bamboo beds wear white canopies, verandas run to stone and timber, and thatch roofs cap cottages raised individually across six acres of garden. No two units match. The Cove Cottage sits ten feet above its own grotto, a king bed and terrace angled to the sunset. The four Pillar cabins go higher still, built like tree houses with wide balconies and outdoor showers tucked below. Rock Cottage takes the cliff edge directly, its veranda giving a full 180-degree sweep of sea and sky. Twenty-six bedrooms altogether across the property sleep up to 52 guests, with garden rooms set a few steps back among the foliage and closer to the beach path. Three Rhodesian Ridgebacks wander the grounds and tend to greet arrivals; guests who dislike dogs should note it going in. Spa treatments happen in huts angled toward the water, close enough that the sea sets the pace. Seven Mile Beach is a short drive away, though most guests stay put, drawn to the water below the cliffs by kayaks and paddleboards left out for anyone to take. It is a small, particular place, built slowly and clearly loved.
