Set on a hill above the Port wine lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia, The Yeatman looks straight across the Douro to Porto's old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The hotel sits on seven acres of grounds and holds two swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor, both built as infinity pools facing the river. Every room and suite opens onto its own terrace or balcony. Rooms are grouped by floor and individually decorated with objects and artwork tied to a Portuguese wine producer, so each carries a story of a particular vineyard. The Bacchus Suite, on the ninth floor, has a rotating bed that can be turned to face the view or the fireplace, plus a round bathtub and a private terrace with a small fountain. The Presidential Suite goes further still, with its own pool and garden. You can hear little beyond wind and glassware from the upper terraces at dusk. Dining runs from the two-Michelin-starred Gastronomic Restaurant to the more relaxed Orangerie and Dick's Bar & Bistro, all built around the same river outlook. A wine spa, wine cellars and a shop for tastings round out the property's focus on Port and Douro wine. It is a compact stay, seven acres in total, but built entirely around one long view.
